When my son was 4 we bought him a kid’s cd player. It was made in lightweight colourful plastic, and even though it wasn’t the most resilient it did the job. We bought him cds of his favourite Disney movies and he spent many long trips in the back of the car with his headphones on, listening to the stories and singing along to the tunes. Oracle cards have now been published in a variety of themes that are suitable for children – animals, angels, unicorns, dolphins, flowers or simply pictures of children going about their day to day business. For a while now I’ve been doing my very best to model good behaviour for him (and fight my bad habits) it’s...

Arrghhh it’s report card time! My son is in Grade 6 and this year is transitioning from generalised performance statements such as “Meets Expectations” to the more formal alphabetized ratings of A-D by subject. This whole process has increased his stress no end and sometimes it’s a challenge helping him through it as his expectations for himself are tremendous. How’s your child doing? Are they stressed out too? So what can you do to support your child in the lead up to and...
